Information for MLA Students

Please browse the navigation panel on the right for information pertinent to MLA students.  Capstone Project guidelines, course descriptions and degree requirements can be found in the Academics section.

E-mail and One Port

When becoming part of the UNC Asheville community each student is given a UNC Asheville e-mail account and a student account for the University's web portal, "OnePort."

Your OnePort account is your direct connection to services offered by UNC Asheville. Such services include: registration, making payments online, checking midterm and final grades, course evaluations, and requesting official transcripts from the university.

Instructions for setting up these accounts will be provided at Orientation, but also may be accessed on the OnePort login page.  If you have trouble logging in, please visit the OnePort Help page.

Course Evaluations

Every semester UNC Asheville asks students to evaluate courses and teaching with the goal of making them better. We can't do that without your thoughtful feedback, so your participation is very important to us. The university uses an online service provider to ensure that your evaluations will be totally anonymous. Please know that we value your feedback and that your instructor will use it to improve his/her courses.  Each semester, students who are enrolled in courses eligible for evaluation will receive an email to their UNC Asheville email accounts with a link to the online evaluation.  Please be on the lookout for these emails during the last month of classes each semester.

Some important notes:

  • If you feel that a particular question is not applicable to your course, you can select NA for Not Applicable in the column to the far right. Not all courses are designed to include the learning objectives listed in the first seven (7) questions.
  • Once you have completed your evaluation, you cannot re-submit it. Please look carefully at the top of the evaluation form to make certain you are evaluating the correct course.
  • Evaluations are not available for instructors to view until after all grades are submitted.
  • Not all courses are evaluated each semester, so the list below may not include all of your enrolled courses.

Moodle

Moodle is an online service that links you to your class. It offers ways to get in touch with fellow class mates as well as a calendar of events, a discussion board, a real time chat option, as well as a fast link to resources. To log in, use the same username and password you are using for OnePort. To access Moodle, click on the white Moodle link in the top right corner of any UNC Asheville webpage.

Ramsey Library Hours

Check the Library's calendar for daily hours of operation.

Archive of e-Newsletters

MLA students receive an e-Newsletter to their UNC Asheville e-mail address each Wednesday, announcing important dates and procedures, highlighting upcoming events and conveying other pertinent information.

Conferences & Events

MLA students are strongly encouraged to participate in professional academic conferences both to fulfill the university’s degree requirement of “Oral Competency,” and to experience the intellectual growth such activities provide. Similarly, we encourage students to participate in community-related activities and Study Abroad opportunities related to their academic program.
