Beginning in the Fall 2019 semester, the MLAS Program will be able to offer competitive scholarships.
This wonderful opportunity for our students was made possible by a generous gift from MLAS alumnus Stagg Newman (class of December 2018; pictured above right), and his wife Cheryl Newman. The Lee and Martha Newman Fund, named in honor of Stagg's parents, will come in the form of an annual gift of $10,000 for the next five years. This will provide four $2,000 scholarships per year ($1,000 awarded each semester) in addition to $2,000 for professional development funds.
“I’m a very strong believer in the value of a liberal arts education and taking the holistic approach,” Stagg said in a recent news release. “The sciences and the humanities have so much to give one another, and you need insights from both to come up with solutions for what we do as a civilization and as individuals.”
We're so excited to be able to offer this opportunity to both new and current students. To apply, submit a brief (500 words max) essay describing your committment to service in your education and/or career, and how receiving this scholarship would help advance your educational goals. The deadline for applying to this scholarship is April 30 for both new and currently enrolled students, so don't wait!
